Very interesting list of tips for consumers before, during and after the repair process. This report separates AAA’s advice into two categories: 1) tips on how to communicate effectively with technicians and 2) tips on how to avoid unnecessary repairs and charges.
We can’t help but notice that ClearMechanic addresses nearly every item listed under #2. To wit:
- “Always read the repair order before signing it and authorizing any work.” For upsells, specifically, this is simply not possible at repair centers that do not subscribe to ClearMechanic. Nearly all upsells occur over the phone and do not provide written documentation or estimates to the car owner, who is at work or home. Web-based invoicing and repair explanations solve this.
- “Read over the bill and question any charges that are not clear.” Again, without ClearMechanic’s online documentation that is visible to the car owner in real time during repairs, this cannot be done.
