Courtesy of an About.com post by auto repair guru Matt Wright, we came across the story of an independent shop facing financial penalties after not providing a proper estimate or invoice to a repair customer. The shop apparently violated the Consumer Protection Act in the following ways:
If we read the story correctly, the total damages – including fines and compensation to the consumer – amount to $30,000. That’s meaningful for an independent shop.
This should go without saying, but we’ll take the liberty since it’s our blog: for far less than that, any repair shop can use ClearMechanic to generate online estimates and invoices (among many other things) that eliminate miscommunication about repair pricing.
