Because we plan on introducing opt-in text messages to our “Repair Status Updates” module, we’re always looking out for new data on texting in the automotive sector. In that context, today’s Wall Street Journal article, “Driving While Texting: Is It the New DWI?”, came up on our radar. It has nothing to do (directly) with automotive repairs, but we thought it was worth noting.
The article cites a Virginia Tech Transportation Institute study, which reveals that text messaging increases the risk of a crash or near crash by a factor of 23. Not surprisingly, 18 states have already banned “DWT.” We hope there’s more public education on this issue, if not regulation.
