Our partners at RepairPal.com do a great job of providing common sense text explanations for virtually all repair jobs. This, and their commitment to transparency in car repairs, is why we agreed to a deep content partnership with their organization. Whenever a photo is uploaded to ClearMechanic, not only do we feature our expert illustrations along side the photo but also a text explanation courtesy of RepairPal. In addition, RepairPal has access to our illustration database and features them prominently in their Encyclopedia. See here and here for examples.
We became aware this week that RepairPal has enhanced their text explanations in two ways: 1) quantity – there are now explanations for more uncommon parts; and 2) quality – the explanations have been simplified to appeal to the average car owner.
When creating explanatory content, there is a delicate balance required to satisfy repair shop technicians and typical consumers. The former group wants highly accurate part descriptions that can involve techno-speak. The latter group insists on simplicity even in situations where the car part or repair is inherently complex. RepairPal does an excellent job of striking the right line here, and we are happy to offer their content in our product set.
(As a side note, we are particularly pleased with the new color schemes RepairPal has added to ClearMechanic’s illustration content, which are more consistent with RepairPal’s orange / blue user experience. This has only been done with a few illustrations, such as http://repairpal.com/abs-control-module, but this will eventually apply to all ClearMechanic content featured on their site.)
