Overview: Precision Auto Care, an independent service center in Los Angeles, reached out to ClearMechanic over the Thanksgiving holiday weekend for urgent help with a skeptical customer. The customer dropped off her vehicle for a standard $150 maintenance package and was extremely surprised to learn her brake pads needed replacement. Because she was not at the service facility, the customer and her husband asked for photographic evidence of the worn brake pads. One technician at Precision Auto Care, Victor Pasztor, had heard of ClearMechanic and downloaded the app on his Android smartphone. Using our demo site, Victor "visually sold" the $350 brake pad job.
Background: ClearMechanic receives inbound requests to try our program from independent repair shops and dealerships across the world on a daily basis. But rarely do we receive urgent e-mails or phone calls from repair facilities that insist on signing up for our program right then because they need to persuade skeptical customers. In this case, we quickly set up Precision Auto Care on our demo account and enabled the technician to show the deterioration of the vehicle's brake pads.
After chatting with Precision Auto Care's technician, Victor, we realized there were several complicating factors that made ClearMechanic ideally suited to help out:
1) The customer had dropped off the vehicle and therefore was not present to see with her own eyes the brake pad damage.
2) The vehicle had very little mileage on it, prompting the customer to question the recommendation.
3) The customer and her husband had negative experiences with other auto repair facilities, and therefore were skeptical of "upsells." They needed clear proof that this repair was necessary from a safety perspective.
