ClearMechanic Welcomes Automotive Industry Experts to Advisory Board
Company establishes its position as innovator and thought leader in automotive repairs
San Francisco, CA – (May 8, 2013) ClearMechanic announced the addition of four industry experts to its Advisory Board, establishing the company's position as a thought leader in the automotive repair industry. The new advisors are respected leaders in academia and industry, all committed to ClearMechanic's vision of connecting consumers with honest repair shops.
Below is additional information about each new ClearMechanic advisor:
- Henry S. Schneider, Assistant Professor of Economics, Cornell University
Professor Schneider has conducted extensive research on the automotive repair industry. His undercover field research (see full paper and New York Times coverage) found that only 20% of repair shops passed basic standards of trustworthiness. Professor Schneider also studies the broader "expert service problem," in which the same expert who diagnoses a condition is the one who gains financially from fixing it. His research is directly aligned with ClearMechanic's goal to bring transparency and trust to automotive repairs. He will advise ClearMechanic on strategy and product development.
- George Iny, President, Automobile Protection Association (APA)
Iny's organization protects consumers from deception and fraud in automotive retail, both auto repairs and used car sales. APA routinely conducts expert "mystery shopper" investigations of auto repair providers (see all APA auto repair investigations). These investigations receive widespread media coverage and have cemented APA's position as the preeminent consumer watchdog in the automotive aftermarket. APA also provides additional services to consumers and automotive repair centers to faciliate high-quality repair experiences. Iny will advise ClearMechanic on strategy and product development.
- Gerry Frank, Multi-Location Independent Shop Owner and President of Automotive Profit Pro
Frank is an accomplished operator in the automotive repair industry, starting as a technician, before owning a gas station and eventually owning and operating three large independent repair facilities. He also runs Automotive Profit Pro, a national consultancy for automotive repair shop owners. Frank's advisory relationship with ClearMechanic began in an interesting way: as a client. After observing the value of ClearMechanic first-hand, he quickly became a national advocate for ClearMechanic and has become an important member of our team. Frank will advise ClearMechanic on general business matters, with focus on sales and marketing.
- Ricardo Gárate, Dealer Owner and President of ClearMechanic Latino
Gárate owns and operates a prestigious General Motors franchise in Mexico, a continuation of his family's 75-year record of successful dealer operations. Gárate has led ClearMechanic's expansion into Mexico, Central America and Spain (collectively referred to as "ClearMechanic Latino"), and will play a key role in supervising ClearMechanic's international operations. He will advise ClearMechanic on general business matters, with focus on international sales and marketing.
